Description:

Description for B&B:

Located in the beautiful countryside of Poitou Charentes, just 60 km south of the Loire, you will find the charming medieval village of Airvault. At The Voltaire Bed and Breakfast, Jo Cottrell offers a warm and relaxed welcome in their 19th Century mansion home.

The Voltaire, situated near the center of Airvault, features 4 spacious double and twin bedrooms, each uniquely styled and furnished, with their own en-suite bathrooms. Our main goal at The Voltaire is to ensure that you have a pleasant and comfortable stay, whether it's for a night, a few days, a week, or longer. Many guests have found themselves sleeping longer than expected due to the peaceful atmosphere and high level of comfort provided by The Voltaire. As a result, we offer breakfast until as late as 12pm.

Each of our guest bedrooms is equipped with an en-suite bathroom that includes a bath and shower. We provide luxurious bath sheets, hand towels, and handmade soaps for your convenience. The beds in our bedrooms are either kingsize or twin singles, adorned with 100% cotton bed linen and soft Egyptian cotton duvet covers with a high thread count. The mattresses are deep sprung to ensure the perfect level of support and comfort. If needed, we can also provide a temporary bed in your room for a child under 12. All rooms have ample storage space for your clothes and comfortable seating areas.

The Voltaire also offers a cozy library with an open fire during the winter months, filled with a selection of books and board games for your enjoyment. We also have a cooler sitting room that provides a more tranquil atmosphere.

When the weather permits, you can take advantage of our outdoor space. The walled garden at the back of the property enjoys the morning sun, creating an ideal spot for breakfast on the lawn. As the sun moves, the garden provides shade during the hottest part of the day, ensuring a cooler environment. The front of the house features a raised swimming pool (available in warmer months) that basks in the sun throughout the day, creating a true sun trap.

Our continental breakfast includes freshly baked croissants and baguettes from local bakeries, Airvault honey, homemade marmalade and preserves, fruit juice, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.

Upon request, we also offer evening meals that consist of 4 courses, wine and/or soft drinks, and coffee. The cost is 22 euros per adult and 12 euros per child under 12. We strive to use seasonal and local ingredients, so the menu may vary day-to-day and depending on the time of year. Picnics can also be provided with prior notice.

In this idyllic and unspoiled part of France, we benefit from high annual sunshine levels, second only to the Côte d'Azur. Additionally, we are situated in the heart of the largest sunflower-growing region in France.

As we are located on the outskirts of the village, with its stunning architecture, most amenities are within a short walk, including bakeries, butchers, restaurants, bars, banks with cash machines, a chemist, and a Saturday morning market selling local produce.

Surrounded by historic towns and villages, beautiful countryside, swimming lakes, and major attractions such as Futuroscope, Vallée des Singes, Puy du Fou, and La Venise Verte, there is plenty to explore in the area. We are also just 60 km south of the Loire Valley, which is famous for its chateaux and vineyards. For more information on the area and its attractions, please visit our website.

We offer unlimited free WiFi access, and you can make real-time bookings online through our website.

Directions

GPS co-ordinates:

Latitude: 46° 49' 32" N
Longitude: 00° 08' 21" W

If you are approaching Airvault from the direction of Poitiers, you will need to follow the D725 road into the town. Look for signs directing you to Centre Ville. As you drive through the town, you will pass the Gendarmerie on your right, then go downhill and past the Church and Market Hall, also on your right. At the end of the road, you will reach a roundabout. On the right side of the roundabout, you will see Groupama, and we are located directly across from it on the left side. The Hotel du Cygne is also opposite our location. Our garage is next to the corner, where you will find recycling bins. There is parking available in front of the house and garage. If it is full, you can use the public car park diagonally opposite on the other side of the roundabout.

If you are coming from Parthenay, Bressuire, or Thouars, you will need to join the D725 road towards Airvault. When you see a turning signposted Airvault centre ville with 4 flagpoles and the town's name in flowers, ignore it and continue straight on the D725. Keep following the road until you pass the town name and cross over the river. Soon after crossing the river, you will come across a sharp right-hand corner with a left turn off. Take this turning onto D27 Rue de la Gare. Drive over the level crossing and keep left at the fork. This will lead you to a roundabout. The Hotel du Cygne will be on your right, and there will be a car park on your left. We are located on the other corner of the roundabout, across from Groupama.
