During the revolution, the grounds were sold and Mr. Alphonse-Joseph Charmeil, an art teacher at the Royal Middle School of Bourges and the founder of the Museum of Bourges, decided to build this unique house in the style of Napoleon III. He also added a kiosk and two detached houses to the garden in 1878. Mr. Charmeil served as the museum's curator for nearly 50 years.
