Dar Al Bahar, also known as the house by the sea, is a fitting name for this remarkable establishment. Located on the ramparts of Essaouira in the "San Dion" area, this house offers a breathtaking view of the ocean and its invigorating trade winds. The terrace provides a front-row seat to a mesmerizing spectacle of winds crashing against the rugged coastal rocks. Additionally, guests can indulge in the panoramic view of the medina, which includes the ancient Scala's northern fort and the Mellah, the former Jewish quarter. On the horizon, the sand dunes extend to the city's outskirts, creating a harmonious blend of landscapes.

Jean-Claude and Lise, a French-Dutch couple, have passionately restored this house, which was originally constructed at the turn of the previous century. During that era, this part of Essaouira thrived, thanks in part to the presence of an authentic windmill – now a ruin – that once supplied flour to the city and its surrounding areas. The street still bears the name Touahen, meaning mill in Arabic.

In the present day, tranquility envelops this enchanting retreat, only interrupted by the crashing waves and the calls of seagulls.
