Description:

Description for B&B:

The king of France, known as Saint Louis, began the re-conquest of Aquitaine, a part of his kingdom that had been under English rule for centuries. In 1638, the "seneschal," Lord of Mouillepied, had to pay homage to the Count of Taillebourg. In the 18th century, Château Mouillepied was expanded by Guillaume Clairins des Lauriers, the chief engineer of the Rochefort Arsenal and a knight of Saint Michel. The château transformed into a beautiful classical house with terraced gardens, ponds, and aesthetic stone walls.

The name "Mouillepied" derives from the numerous springs on the property. It is located two kilometers away from the picturesque and historic village of Taillebourg, where the famous Battle of Taillebourg took place in 1242, immortalized by Delacroix in 1837. Saint Louis initiated the re-conquest of Aquitaine, which had been under English rule for centuries. In 1638, the Lord of Mouillepied, known as the "seneschal," had to pay homage to the Count of Taillebourg.

Château Mouillepied offers a residence, guest house, bed and breakfast, as well as self-catering options and a three-star hotel. English is spoken on the premises. Situated in Charente Maritime, the owners welcome guests to Château Mouillepied, a 15th and 18th-century building that has been restored while preserving its original character. The château offers modern comfort in the countryside, located in the heart of Romani Saintonge, 30 km away from Cognac and the Atlantic beaches of Royan and Ile d'Oleron.

The château is located 7 km from Saintes on the left bank of the Charente River, near exit 35 of the A10 motorway from Paris to Bordeaux (110 km) and the A837 from La Rochelle airport (65 km). The spacious and comfortable bedrooms overlook the park and feature en-suite bathrooms or shower rooms, toilets, and a wide range of amenities.

On the ground floor of the château, there are public lounges where guests can relax by the fireplace. The orangerie opens up to the tranquil and wooded landscape of the Charente. Guests can choose from a wide selection of teas and herbal teas, enjoy a cup of coffee or soft drinks, all of which are provided free of charge in the evenings. The château offers a pleasant environment and provides plenty of information about local tourism activities, such as fishing, hiking, and vineyard visits.

In the park, there are two self-catering accommodations with central heating. There are also many restaurants nearby.
