Description:

Description for B&B:

Situated in the heart of the Dauphiné, in the charming town of Chirens, this flour-mill has been in operation since approximately 1840, utilizing the power of the Cras river. With its distinctive pink exterior, this mill was once owned by the esteemed Richard-Martin family, who passed down their milling expertise from generation to generation.

The mill's ingenious water system begins with the water flowing through a reach, then passing through a suspended channel before finally entering the troughs, where its weight propels the wheel into motion. Inside, one can find impressive spur gears that connect two pairs of grinding wheels - one dedicated to grinding corn, and the other to wheat. A suspended horizontal axle drives the vertical grinding wheel, creating a synchronized grinding process.

Though time has brought changes, a portion of the mill's original machinery has been preserved, including the wheat cleaner, troughs elevators, bolters, and flour mixer. Additionally, the residential area of the mill has been transformed into a delightful accommodation, featuring guest rooms and a fully-equipped kitchen.
